British Parliament Gangs Up on Murdoch's TV Bid

It's like a scene in an after-school special where all the weak little kids gang up on the big, bad bully, but with funny accents.

After enjoying more than a decade of unparalleled access to the halls of Westminster, Rupert Murdoch has become public enemy No. 1 for British MPs, as all three major political parties are set to vote in favour of a motion calling for the media titan's bid to expand control of broadcaster BSkyB to be killed. The Conservatives, Labour, and the Liberal Democrats are united in passing the non-binding motion, which comes on the heels of allegations that Murdoch's tabloid, News of the World, engaged in illegal phone-hacking to access to private messages of murder victims and family members of slain soldiers and those killed in terror attacks. Murdoch has been preparing a bid to buy the 61-per-cent share of BSkyB that he doesn't already own. The purchase is currently being reviewed by Britain's Competition Commission.
