Karzai Assassin Lynched, Hanged in Kandahar

A tumultuous week in Kandahar continues with a suicide bombing that killed four at a memorial service for Ahmed Wali Karzai.

In case you had any lingering doubts about the, umm, swiftness of Afghan justice, the bodyguard who killed Afghan President Hamid Karzai's half-brother was lynched and then hanged in a public square in Kandahar (warning: The photos are a bit graphic). And, for reciprocity's sake, the Taliban, who said they killed Ahmed Wali Karzai because he had co-operated with British, American, and Canadian forces, then dispatched a suicide bomber to Karzai's memorial service, where he killed four mourners. The bodyguard, allegedly a Taliban plant, had worked for Ahmed Karzai for seven years, and had come from the same town that the Karzai family calls home, Karz.
