Harper Won't Leave 24 Sussex for Renovations

Isn't this the guy who's telling us to retrofit our windows for tax credits?

Prime Minister Stephen Harper refuses to uproot his family from 24 Sussex so that his official residence can undergo the $10 million in renovations the corporation in charge of it says it needs. The National Capital Commission has said since 2008 that 24 Sussex needs “urgent” and “extensive” renovations to keep it from falling into further disrepair. Former tenants have described the mansion in Ottawa's Rockliffe neighbourhood as drafty and suffering from a leaky roof, and it hasn't undergone a serious renovation since the government purchased it in 1944. The NCC said, in 2008, that the state of the house could embarrass Canada when it's hosting international dignitaries. Harper's spokespeople said he and his family are fine with the house as is, but offered no further explanation for why he refuses to let the residence be renovated.
