The satellite discovery comes just as South Sudan declares its hard-fought independence from the north.
Not only is George Clooney one of the world's most beloved actors (and single again, apparently), he's also a human rights crusader whose satellite project uncovered mass graves filled with around 100 bodies in Sudan. Clooney's Satellite Sentinel Project, established to keep an eye on the political fluctuations in Sudan, reported yesterday that they had damning photographic evidence of Sudanese soldiers and members of affiliated militias driving to the site in south central Sudan and unloading body after body into one of three pits. Eyewitnesses say the soldiers swept through the town of Kadugli looking for and killing South Sudan supporters in June. South Sudan gained its independence on Saturday after decades of civil war with the north, although tensions between the mainly Arab north and mainly African south persist.
