Randy and Evi Quaid will not be extradited from Canada following charges of felony vandalism and misdemeanour trespassing.
Oscar-nominated actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi will not be extradited from Canada, after an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice that the case is simply not important enough. A California District Attorney's Office applied to have them extradited earlier this year after the pair failed to appear in court for charges of felony vandalism and misdemeanor trespassing. The couple crossed the border into Canada and were arrested in Vancouver last October. The D.A. office explained that extradition is reserved for more serious offenses since the process is lengthy and resource intensive. Meanwhile, the Quaids have applied for refugee status in Canada claiming they need asylum from "star whackers" who target Hollywood celebrities. Evi recently became a Canadian citizen and is sponsoring her husband Randy, best known for starring in Brokeback Mountain, the National Lampoon Vacation movies, and Independence Day.
