Natynczyk Wonders If Ground Troops Could Have Helped Libya

The government's ruled out any boots hitting Libyan territory, even if the country's top soldier thinks doing so might have helped the slow-moving war.

Gen. Walt Natynczyk, the chief of defence staff for the Canadian Forces, said in an interview that allowing ground troops in Libya could have brought about a quicker end to the war. Hey, Walt? You seem otherwise pleasant, frank, and loyal, but come on, man. Ground troops? Remember how the last time we sent in ground troops somewhere they were there for, oh, nine years? Sure, Afghanistan and Libya are two vastly different countries with different campaigns and goals and people and geography, etc., and maybe, just maybe, ground troops would hasten Gadhafi's exit, but this just has warning bells all over it. Thankfully, your political overlords have flatly ruled out the idea, so it's not likely to happen. And even if you were just spitballing, don't do it in front of reporters, okay?
