Goran Hadzic, who led rebel Croatian Serbs against Crotia's separation from Yugoslavia, is the 161st and final suspected war criminal brought to The Hague.
The last remaining suspect wanted by the UN for war crimes committed in during the Balkan wars has been arrested in Serbia. President Boris Tadic said Goran Hadzic, the former leader of Croatian Serbs, is in custody after seven years on the run on charges of crimes against humanity including murder, “wanton destruction,” persecution, torture, and a bunch of other awful stuff that was all too common during the various wars that led to the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Hadzic, 53, was first indicted in 2004 for crimes he allegedly committed against Croats during their war of independence from 1991 to 1995. Hadzic is the 161st and final Balkan Wars fugitive to be brought before the UN, and follows the arrest of Ratko Mladic, the leader of the Bosnian Serb military and archictect of the Srebrenica massacre, in May.
