Saskatoon is Canada's Fastest Growing City

More and more people are willing to overlook the cold and geographic isolation that comes with living Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg.
Saskatoon, the self-styled Paris of Prairies, is Canada's fastest growing city, expanding at a rate of nearly 28 people per 1,000 residents in a year. Saskatoon led all major cities in the country, adding 7,200 people to bring the most populous city between Winnipeg and Calgary to 265,300 residents as of July 1st last year. Vancouver and Regina followed Saskatoon (both at 22.3 per 1,000), with Toronto in fourth and Calgary fifth. The rise of the the Prairies (Winnipeg, whose population was essentially stagnant for decades, came in ninth) suggests a slowing of growth in Alberta, which had dominated the list for much of the past 10 years. A cheaper housing market, a boom in natural resource extraction, a surplus of jobs – and now a pro hockey team – have increasingly made Saskatchewan and Manitoba more appealing in recent years.
