Political Donations

Obama is News Corp's Top Donation Recipient

Just because News Corp's media properties are blatantly right-wing doesn't mean their political donations have to be.

News Corp, Rupert Murdoch's media behemoth, donated more money to U.S. President Barack Obama than to any other American politician, giving him $368,000 in his bid for the presidency. While that might come as a bit of a shock from the media group behind such vehemently anti-Obama news outlets such as the New York Post and Fox News, Murdoch's company has actually donated slightly more to Democratic politicians than to Republicans since 1989, according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation, a transparency watchdog. The foundation's report also takes into account individual donations from News Corp's employees, which could further ridiculous claims that all journalists are merely left-wing hacks given that other Democratic politicians, such as Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, John Kerry and Hilary Clinton have all benefited from News Corp's largesse.
