Fewer murders, robberies, assaults and property crimes? BUILD MORE PRISONS!!!!!!
Canada's crime rate is at a 38-year-low, and the homicide rate is at the level it was waaaaaay back in 1966. Statistics Canada released its annual survey of crime in the country, and found that nearly every major crime category – homicide, attempted murder, robberies, assaults, property crimes – had fewer incidents in 2010 than the year before. The number of reported sex assaults, child pornography offences, and gun and drug crimes, however, did increase. The crime statistics sort of fly in the face of the Conservative government's tough-on-crime legislative agenda, in which they intend to introduce more mandatory minimum sentences and construct new prisons while expanding existing ones to facilitate a predicted increase in the number of prisoners.
