Amy Winehouse Found Dead

The troubled singer who was largely responsible for the late 2000s soul revival has died.

English soul singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London home. She was 27 years old, joining a number of ground-breaking musicians, from Kurt Cobain to Janis Joplin to Jimi Hendrix, who died at that age. The cause of death at this point is unknown. Winehouse released two albums of back-to-basics soul, catapulting her to international fame on the strength of her powerful yet tender voice and singles Rehab and You Know I'm No Good. She had struggled with legal issues, a tumultuous wedding, and alcohol and substance abuse in recent years, falling in and out of rehab before trying to mount a comeback tour this year, but it's her voice – sultry, sassy, smokey, and pained – that we'll remember her for.
