Former TVO Host Elwy Yost Dies

Saturday nights in Ontario just got a little lonelier.

Elwy Yost, the iconic former host of TVO’s Saturday Night at the Movies, died Thursday at the age of 85. For 25 years, a generation of dorky Ontarians tuned in Saturday nights for his interviews and commentary which aired alongside countless films. Far from a critic, the Toronto-born was known by many as the “ultimate movie fan,” an affable host who rarely had anything bad to say about the movies on screen. After shooting over 1,000 episodes of the TVO series, Elwy retired from \Saturday Night at the Movies in 1999 and soon became a Member of the Order of Canada for his commitment to public broadcasting and education. A celebration of Elwy's life is expected to air shortly on TVO.
