Liberals Aim to Tie Hudak to Ford

Anonymous Grits are doing what they do best – leaking strategy to friendly newspapers that will probably come back to haunt them in a few months.

It's the election campaign narrative that everyone in Ontario saw coming – Dalton McGuinty's Liberals are openly hoping that voter dissatisfaction with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and his budget-cutting axe (we like to think he's named it “Gravina”) will get them out to the polls and voting Grit on Oct. 6. Anonymous senior Liberal sources (which basically keep the Toronto Star running at this point) say they're aiming to tie Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak to Ford, claiming they both take a slash-and-burn approach to public finances. We're not sure if this is an entirely prescient strategy, what with the fact that Ford, y'know, still has hundreds of thousands of supporters around Toronto, and that there are more than a few fair charges (e-Health, anybody?) about gravy trains overflowing at Queen's Park, but hey – it ought to make the campaign that much more interesting.
