Glenn Beck Gets 'Hitler Youth' Trending on Twitter

And the award for most tactless utterance of the year goes to...
Any day that “Hitler Youth” is trending on Twitter has got to be one of the lower points of the year, thanks in part to conservative talk radio host Glenn Beck's suggestion that the Norwegian political youth camp that was attacked by Anders Behring Breivik last week reminded him of, yep, the Hitler Youth. Never mind the fact that the victims were the scions of one of the most progressive political parties in Europe, or that Breivik had ties to actual, real-live neo-Nazis, or that Norway was invaded and governed by the Nazis and there are thousands of people there who remember just how terrible that was. But enough of the righteous indignation. We suppose the more we feed into it the more likely Beck and his ilk will be to utter such nonsense again, and frankly, that we're even deigning to talk about Beck in relation to one of the most gruesome terror attacks ever is an affront to the 76 victims, their families, and the rest of Norway. With that in mind, we'll keep the rest to ourselves.
