Leave it to the politicized pranksters to make sure no one makes a martyr out of the Norwegian terror suspect.
The hacking group Anonymous has issued a call for Internet users worldwide to turn Anders Behring Breivik, the man who confessed to slaughtering 73 Norwegian civilians, into a “joke.” Anonymous urged people to deface any copies they can find online of Breivik's 1,500-page anti-Muslim manifesto, to “change it, add stupid stuff, remove parts, shop his picture” and then flood the web with copies to bury the original. The goal is to delegitimize his beliefs, says the message from Anonymous, so that “no one will take him serious[ly] anymore.” It's certainly a novel way to respond to the attacks, and could help prevent Breivik and his writings from being idolized by white supremacists if the infamous picture of him holding a rifle in the manifesto is photoshopped to have him holding, say, a beautiful Norwegian salmon, or if every instance of the word "Muslim" were to be changed to "clown", because really, those things are frightening.
