Steve Jobs' baby goes global in a big way, outstripping for the first time all other rivals for the most sales in the last three months.

Apple has taken over as the world's best-selling mobile phone manufacturer, beating out Nokia and Samsung for the first time by selling some 20 million iPhones worldwide in the second quarter of 2011. Nokia, which had long been the world's top seller, is now in third, with Samsung leaping over them as well en route to 19.2 million phones sold. Apple's share made up 18.5 per cent of all phones sold in the second quarter as much-sought-after iPhones enter new markets around the world. All told, though, Nokia phones still make up 24.2 per cent of all mobiles on the planet, while Apple only comprises a little more than 5 per cent... for now.
