Friday’s resignations include the heads of the army, the ground forces, the navy, and the air force.
Even more friction is expected in Turkey between the secularist military and the government as the country's top four military leaders resigned Friday. The heads of the armed forces and commanders of the ground forces, the navy, and the air forces said they were seeking “retirement” ahead of Monday’s planned meeting with the Supreme Military Council. General Isik Kosaner said he was resigning to protest the jailing of military officers accused of plotting to overthrow the government. Though the other generals have not yet given a reason for their resignation, we think it's safe to say their reasons are probably related.
