A lack of remorse for his actions means Johnson Aziga could be in prison for a very long time.
A man convicted of first-degree murder for transmitting HIV to two women who later died due to the virus has been declared a dangerous offender, and will be imprisoned indefinitely. Johnson Aziga, an HIV-positive resident of Hamilton, Ont., was convicted two years ago for having unprotected sex with 11 women who didn't know he carried the virus. Two of those women later died from AIDS-related cancers, and five others have been declared HIV-positive as well. Aziga was the first man in Canada ever convicted of murder via HIV. Crown attorneys successfully argued that Aziga was likely to reoffend should he be released at the end of his life sentence, as a judge ruled today that Aziga should be given dangerous-offender status and kept behind bars for the foreseeable.
