“Long live the people of Libya, long life to you, my fighting brother,” Chavez wrote.
In a letter read aloud on national television, ailing President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez expressed solidarity and support for Libyan despot Moammar Gadhafi. Chavez denounced NATO’s “imperial” attacks on Libya, which he claimed are solely for the purpose of taking Libyan oil, before sending Gaddafi "a strong hug." Venezuela's Foreign Ministry does not recognize Libya's rebel Transitional National Council and has claimed that such recognition contradicts international law. Meanwhile, Gadhafi is deflecting accusations that the brutal suppression of dissent and the murder of thousands of protesters in his regime also contradicts international law. Moammar and Hugo: least adorable BFF's ever?
