Alexis No Longer on Fire

The 10-year-old Canadian band Alexisonfire was extinguished so members could focus on other projects.

Canadian hardcore band Alexisonfire is no more. Singer George Pettit announced the split Friday on the group's website in a revealing and personal letter about the band's demise. “Was the break up amicable? Not really. Was it necessary? Probably,” he wrote. Pettit says the band broke up after singer/guitarist Dallas Green left to focus on the (more successful) band City and Colour and other members dealt with "a litany of personal issues." The Juno-winning group, which is named after a stripper, is still in talks about special releases and a farewell tour. Alexisonfire is best known for ushering in an era where “hardcore” became commercially successful, though luckily mostly in the U.S.
