Deadly Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan

The U.S. military is investigating whether insurgent fire brought down the NATO helicopter.

A devastating helicopter crash just west of Kabul Saturday has killed 38 people, making it the deadliest event for Americans in the 10-year mission in Afghanistan. The helicopter's occupants included members of Team Six, Navy Seals, Afghan commands, U.S. Air Force members, the Chinook crew, and civilians. Though American officials are not yet certain of the cause, the crash is believed to be a result of insurgent fire. The Taliban has already accepted responsibility for the attack and claimed they shot the helicopter down while it was preparing to raid an insurgent house in Wardak. With that many Seals on board, it's hard not to assume the NATO forces were in the middle of a very important mission.
