The latest numbers are like finding out your lifelong crush loves you just after you've settled and married.
In what just might be the most inconsequential poll ever taken in Canadian history, Nanos finds that the Conservatives and NDP have both lost support over the summer while those Liberals have apparently arisen from their deathbed into a second-place tie with the Official Opposition. The Tories have slipped back down to 36.2 per cent support, which puts them in minority territory, although that doesn't really mean anything because we're about as far away from an election as possible. Ditto for the NDP numbers, which have dropped to 26.8 per cent nationally and 34.2 per cent in Quebec. Nanos says those numbers are tied to Jack Layton stepping aside to undergo cancer treatment, although polling closed before it was revealed that interim leader Nycole Turmel had once been a member of the Bloc Québécois (and the English media's reflexive anti-separatism kicked into overdrive). Liberal Leader Bob Rae helped his party back up to 27 per cent support nationally, which, again, means nothing, although Lord knows the party wishes it did.
