Battle of Tripoli

Rebels Advance Through Tripoli as Gadhafi Loses Grip

There's been no sign of the Libyan dictator as fighting in the capital heats up.

The battle for Tripoli is on, with rebel forces skirmishing with those loyal to Moammar Gadhafi throughout the Libyan capital. Reports suggest that the rebels have taken over much of the city of some 1.2 million people, and Gadhafi's two eldest sons, Saif al-Islam and Mohammed Gadhafi, are also in custody after being captured by opposition troops. The whereabouts of Gadhafi himself are unknown as rebels sweep through Tripoli to find the embattled dictator. While rebel supporters and anti-Gadhafi revellers took to the streets of Tripoli to celebrate last night, the city is still reportedly full of snipers, artillery teams, and at least one tank company loyal to Gadhafi. The dictator has sent out audio reports in recent days warning against a foreign occupation, but rebel and NATO leaders both say Gadhafi's hold on power is quickly slipping away.
