Libyan Civil War Over, Kinda!

  • First Posted: Aug 22 2011 16:07 PM

One out of three wars ain't too bad, right?

Moammar Gadhafi might be hiding out somewhere in the Libyan desert, and there are still pockets of resistance throughout Tripoli, but it looks like the rebel army has all but taken over the capital. Both President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper have congratulated them and NATO troops on a job well done as the decisive Tripoli battle winds down. Hooray. At least there wasn't a single coalition casualty this time around. Now all that's left is trying to build a democracy out of nothing, reconciling sore tribal differences, jumpstarting a non-existent economy, burying the dead, rebuilding critical infrastructure across the country, trying Gadhafi's sons in court, cleaning up shrapnel and unexploded ordnance, figuring out those messes in Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and calling it a day.
