Twins from Taiwan lead the Langley, B.C., All-stars against the all-time greatest Little League team.
A bunch of tweens from B.C. beat the most storied Little League baseball team on the planet yesterday, with the Langley All-Stars topping Chinese Taipei 5-3 at the Little League World Series. The victory for the Canadian side is just about their biggest ever at the annual tournament in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as Chinese Taipei (or Taiwan) has won a record 17 championships, while Canada has won zilch. The victory means the Langley team – part of a baseball association that Toronto Blue Jays star Brett Lawrie once played for – will move on further in the playoffs while Chinese Taipei goes home. Langley was helped along by a stellar pitching effort and a home run from Yi-An Pan, who emigrated from Taiwan to Canada as a youngster and was integral in defeating his native country. His twin brother, Yi-Fan Pan, also knocked in a run. It was Canada's first victory over Chinese Taipei in 17 attempts. They now get to face off against defending champions Japan today to keep their chances alive.
