Gilad Shalit’s 25th birthday was marked by protests and renewed calls for action.
It’s been more than five years since young Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas militants near the Gaza border. The International Red Cross has still not been allowed to visit him. On Sunday, hundreds marked his 25th birthday with a march along the Kerem Shalom crossing where protesters attempted to block trucks carrying goods into Gaza. At an evening rally near the Erez crossing, Gilad's father, Noam Shalit, urged Israel to ask the UN for help and said that aid must not continue to reach Hamas. It's been a chaotic week in Israel, where eight people were injured Monday in a nightclub in South Tel Aviv. A terrorist from the West Bank carjacked a taxi and crashed it into a police car before going on a stabbing spree at a nearby club. The DJ was told to continue playing.
