Hint: It's pretty much what many Canadians think, too.
A new (Wiki)leaked cable from the U.S. embassy in Ottawa is offering insight into what American diplomats think of Canadian leadership. The 2010 document suggests that Harper’s top priority was to stay in power without, you know, letting the economy fall to pieces. They also said Conservatives aimed to bow out of Afghanistan gracefully, look like they cared about climate change, and fix the “buy America” issue in the U.S. stimulus policy. According to their report, the Conservatives were less popular with Quebec, big cities, women, and immigrants (no biggie.) The document also said the Liberals suffered from “self-inflicted wounds” under Ignatieff’s leadership and that neither the Liberals nor the NDP had found a winning issue. As for Chrétien, let’s just say they were excited by his retirement.
