Plus: a sneak peak at the party's leaked new platform. The Ontario election has not even started and it's already getting messy.
As the Ontario election race is about to kick off, the Liberals have a new message about their electoral events: no Tories or New Dems allowed. Premier Dalton McGuinty said the new policy was designed to keep the focus on the positive and avoid “political games” (can you imagine if those made their way into an election?). PC Leader Tim Hudak said he was “very surprised” by the change in tradition, and said the Liberals and NDP would still be welcome at his party’s events as long as they don't get rowdy. Meanwhile, much of the Liberal party’s platform has been leaked to the media, and this year, McGuinty has vowed to woo women, seniors, and immigrants on issues like health care, education, and transport. The premier promises to run GO trains throughout the entire day and offers a tax credit to new immigrants. As a whole, the new Liberal platform devotes fewer funds to new projects than the previous ones, which may or may not be related to Ontario’s $14 billion deficit.
