Three hundred citizens are set to give Mayor Rob Ford and Toronto City Council a piece of their minds on service cuts.
Toronto's getting set for what could be its second record-breaking council meeting, as 300 people have signed up to speak at a public hearing today on what services should be cut to balance the city's budget. The executive committee, which features Mayor Rob Ford and a clutch of his political allies, will review a laundry list of services – from libraries to zoos to daycare to Christmas gifts for poor children to police to you get the idea – that could be trimmed back. Not two months ago, some 169 citizens showed up for a similar executive meeting on service cuts, a 22-hour meeting that stretched on through the night and featured all manner of civic-minded theatrics. Today ought to be no different.
