Arcade Fire Wins Polaris Prize

The win makes The Suburbs just about the most-decorated album in Canadian music history.
Arcade Fire added to their already-bloated trophy shelf last night by picking up the Polaris Music Prize for the best Canadian album made last year for their record The Suburbs. The Montreal band has now won the Grammy, Juno, Brit Award, and the $30,000 Polaris prize for best album for The Suburbs, which is basically every meaningful award it could win (no, the American Music Awards, Billboard Awards and Teen Choice Awards don't count. We suppose a Pulitzer or a Nobel would, but...). While we still feel that Braids or Destroyer should have taken the prize (not that we got a vote), it's not like Win Butler et al didn't make a landmark album that will probably stand up to repeat listens for the rest of our lives. It's just that ... other bands could have used the money more, we guess, the merits of The Suburbs notwithstanding (and there are many merits! Like "The Sprawl Pt. II." Great song! Great Album!).
