It's a competitive sport for professional and amateur eaters alike.
In yet another blatant insult to Quebec, Toronto hosted the annual and officially sanctioned World Poutine Eating Championship this weekend. Amateur and professional eaters competed before a live audience in an attempt to eat the most poutine possible in six- or 10-minute intervals. The amateur champion won a year’s worth of free poutine from host Smoke’s Poutinerie, while the winner of the professional category won $4,000 and a trophy composed of 80s electronics and an original NES controller. Last year’s winner, Pat "Deep Dish" Bertoletti, took home the top honour once again, after eating nearly 10 pounds of poutine with his bare hands. According to Wikipedia rumours, the Chicago-based champion's secret is to listen to Jesse and the Rippers (from Full House) while competing.
