Quebec City Passes on 2022 Winter Olympics

Quebec capital will just have to settle with being the most picturesque winter city in the Western hemisphere.
First Toronto pulls out of the race for the 2020 Summer Olympics, and now it looks like Quebec City will cancel its bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics. While the Toronto bid was killed over cost concerns, Quebec Mayor Regis Labeaume says the capital region doesn't have the infrastructure necessary to host the games just yet, as the mountain the city had planned to use for alpine ski events, Mont a Liguori, doesn't pass the International Ski Federation's muster. Labeaume has been gung-ho, to say the least, about building up the city's sporting infrastructure, as he has invested tons of political capital (and money) in getting a new NHL-level arena built. The city will probably bid for the 2026 Games, though. Competing bids for the 2022 Games have already come from such cities as Almaty, Kazakhstan, Munich, Denver, Oslo, just about every city in Switzerland, and Barcelona, which doesn't make a lick of sense to us, but hey, who doesn't love Barcelona?
