Brad Trost gets his knickers in a knot over $6 million to help mothers and their children in Africa and Asia.
There is dissent in the Conservative ranks over a decision to continue funding Planned Parenthood, with Saskatoon MP Brad Trost calling on anti-abortion activists to ramp up their efforts. Ottawa signed off on a $6-million grant to the International Planned Parenthood Federation last week to continue sex education and contraception programs across the developing world. Planned Parenthood had previously been denied funding in 2009 and 2010. Trost, who raised a few eyebrows during the election campaign by telling supporters the Tories would continue to deny funding to Planned Parenthood, wrote on his website that anti-abortion activists need to keep up the pressure on the federal government if they want the money to stop flowing to pro-choice organizations. Now, if only backbench Tory MPs would speak out for far more worthwhile causes such as, oh, just about anything else.
