Provincial Elections

P.E.I., Northwest Territories Cast Votes Today

Two of the country's least populous jurisdictions kick off a mad-cap countrywide election season.

Both Prince Edward Island and the Northwest Territories are holding elections today. Our knowledge of provincial/territorial matters in the two isn't exactly staggering, but we do know that if you live in either jurisdiction (although, given their populations, chances are you don't), you should vote. If P.E.I.'s Progressive Conservatives win, however, and Olive Crane becomes premier, then five of the country's 13 premiers will be women, as she would join Newfoundland and Labrador's Kathy Dunderdale, B.C.'s Christy Clark, Nunavut's Eva Aariak, and as of yesterday, Alberta's Alison Redford. That would be the most female premiers sitting at the same time in Canadian history (even if three of them weren't publicly elected).
