Ontario PCs Defend 'Homophobic' Flyer

From immigrant-baiting to pedophiles to, yep, gay kids, the Ontario election has it all.

The Ontario Progressive Conservatives have apparently ignored the backlash to a homophobic ad in the National Post, as they've sent out flyers that espouse the same message of the Ontario curriculum forcing kids as young as six to learn about transexuals and homosexuality. While the Post apologized on Friday for running the ad, which had been paid for by Christian fundamentalist Charles McVety, PC Leader Tim Hudak has decided to defend his party's flyer, saying kids shouldn't be learning about sexuality that young. No one seems to have told Mr. Hudak that the sex-ed curriculum hasn't changed since 1998, although the Dalton McGuinty government floated the idea of introducing sex ed at a younger age before quickly recanting. Among the "offensive" aspects of the curriculum that the PC mailer takes issue with are recommendations to have students read a book called Gloria Goes to the Gay Pride Parade or writing fairy tales with gender roles reversed. The PC flyer has unleashed a cavalcade of fury over the usual social media platforms, as one might suspect, given campaign literature that specifically demonizes anybody who isn't heterosexual.
