Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh was found dead today by hotel staff.

It's a sad day for already sad Weezer fans. The band's former bassist, Mikey Welsh, was found dead in his Chicago hotel room Saturday afternoon at the age of 40. Authorities are still investigating the cause of death, but they believe it may have been an overdose. Welsh performed with Weezer from 1998 until 2001, when according to the band’s website, he left after having a nervous breakdown. Since then, he’s been active as a painter and multimedia artist in the Outsider Art scene and produced several solo exhibitions. Fans have been invited to post a digital eulogy at Weezerpedia.
