Ban is expected to save the lives of children with imitation peanut allergies, we guess.
The McCarthy-like witch hunt for peanut products in school classrooms has been taken to absurd new heights by an Ontario school board that has banned soy-based imitation peanut butter because it looks too much like the real thing. The Thames Valley District School Board, which covers part of London, Ont., has issued an order to parents to stop using the peanut butter alternative, and specifically singled out a local company, WowButter, that provides parents with big "100% peanut and nut free" labels to put on kids' lunch bags. The ban on peanut-substitutes apparently resulted from the complaint of an unnamed parent, who is now facing wrath on comment boards for denying kids just about the only sandwich ingredient that is universally loved. Except for by that two per cent of kids with peanut allergies, because, y'know, death and such.
