Occupy Canada Plots New Demonstration

Toronto's financial district expecting large protests as it opens this week.

Canada’s Occupy movement has spent the day planning a large demonstration in Toronto for the financial district’s opening on Monday. Though their exact plans have yet to be finalized, the group is expected to make a “very large statement” this week and will also rally at today’s Toronto marathon. 2,000 people protested this weekend in Toronto and Montreal and 1,000 gathered in Vancouver though no major conflicts have arisen so far between protesters and the police. With demands ranging from environmental policy to job creation, Canada’s Occupy movement has been relatively tame compared with the European and American Occupy rallies. Thousands demonstrated worldwide on Saturday with violence in Rome and arrests in New York City and Chicago.
