Reports from Libya say the dictator was killed in a battle in a final standoff in Sirte.

Update: Yeah, he's dead.

Libyan officials claim that they captured a bloodied and beaten Moammar Gadhafi during a battle with troops loyal to the ousted dictator in his hometown of Sirte. The National Transitional Council said that they had captured him, and that he had been severely wounded in both his legs. Reuters later cited military officials in saying that Gadhafi had indeed died from wounds to his head. Click the link, see the picture, and judge for yourself. The guy looks enough like a dead Gadhafi for it to be him, but there have been numerous reports during the Libyan war about Gadhafi's family members getting killed which later turned out to be false, so it might be wise to treat these initial reports with a touch of skepticism. If he is indeed dead, then this marks the end of one of the planet's more colourful madmen, one who ruled Libya with an iron fist for four decades before a public uprising (aided by a little alliance called NATO) ousted him and his loyalists from Tripoli. At least he lived up to his promise that the only way he'd leave Libya was in a body bag.
