Pests found in books in Vancouver after infestations shut down branches in New Westminster and Burnaby.
Well, if Toronto Mayor Rob Ford ever wanted to follow through with his dream of closing a library or two, he could always take a page from Vancouver. Bed bugs have been found in books at one branch of the city's public library system, following the temporary closure of libraries in neighbouring Burnaby and New Westminster due to infestations of the pests. While the bugs haven't led to full-on book burnings just yet, inspectors are going to comb through all the libraries in Vancouver to determine if the pests have spread. After all, the circulation of books from branch to branch would be a great way for them to reach every corner of the city. One exterminator says that bed bugs can get their way into books when people leave them on bedside tables or fall asleep with them open in bed. If that's the case, then we'll pin the blame on Ayn Rand for this outbreak. We know that we sure fell asleep more than enough times trying to get through Atlas Shrugged.
