Gaza Flotilla

Latest Gaza Flotilla Boarded by Israeli Navy

Two ships intent on delivering aid to Gaza end up just short of their goal.

It looks as though the two ships that were intent on breaking the Israeli blockade of Gaza blahave met the all-too-predictable fate of being boarded by the Israeli military just as they were approaching the territory. The two ships, one Canadian, the other Irish, had departed a Turkish port on Wednesday with the goal of delivering aid to the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory whose borders are fiercely monitored by Israel. Earlier this year, a flotilla of 10 ships attempted to sail from Greece to Gaza, but were held up in port before the operation eventually fell apart, with some activists claiming their vessels had been sabotaged while in port. And in 2010, Israeli commandos boarded a Turkish-flagged ship bound for Gaza that led to nine activists being killed. So if nothing else, at least these flotillas are ending more and more peacefully each time.
