On the 30th anniversary of the Canadarm, Canadian children appear disinterested in robotics.
It’s a sad day for young nerdlings across the country, as Canada’s national robotic competition has been cancelled for the year. Organizers said the event was called off due to a lack of interest in robotics, despite the option of enrolling in a “mini sumo fighting” round of robot games. Meanwhile, robot enthusiasts are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Canadarm today. Though retired, Canada’s first robotic spacearm is being recognized for its work in building the ISS and repairing satellites and toilets. The company that built the Canadarm has since developed robotic arms that assist with pediatric surgery and the inspection of nuclear facilities.
