At the APEC summit in Hawaii, Harper is discussing Canada's trade interests with the US, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and Russia.
After the Three Amigos Meeting between Canada, Mexico and the US was cancelled this weekend following the death of a senior Mexican official, some feared Harper would not get a chance to speak privately with Obama at all at the APEC summit. Now, Harper and Obama have scheduled a private meeting for tonight where it is believed that the Canadian prime minister will confront Obama about the delays and potential cancellation of the Keystone Pipeline. The $7 billion project, which Harper says is vital to economic recovery, has been stalled by US opposition. The two are also expected to discuss the terms of the new border security deal, marking the 5th bilateral meeting this weekend between Harper and other world leaders on Canada’s trade interests at the summit.
