Judge Orders Occupy Toronto to Disband

A showdown between police and protesters at St. James Park looms after Occupiers' injunction overruled.

A judge has ruled that the Occupy Toronto protesters must disband today after he found that eviction notices issued last week by the city were constitutionally valid. The city ordered the protest in St. James Park to leave last week owing to complaints from local businesses and residents as well as a need to prepare the park for winter. However, the protesters filed an injunction to have the eviction notice reviewed by a judge. This morning, Justice David Brown of the Ontario Superior Court determined that the protesters had no constitutional right to occupy the park indefinitely, and must take down their tents today. The Occupiers are planning to hold an assembly in the park this evening to decide whether to comply with the ruling or to stand their ground.
