Be forewarned: Your Friday night plans probably aren't going to adhere to them.
So, "The Man" has released new guidelines on drinking (alcohol) safely with an emphasis on getting Canadians to imbibe in moderation. The suggestions, put out by the National Alcohol Strategy Advisory Committee with the input of federal and provincial health officials, say men shouldn't drink more than 15 beverages in a week, while ladies shouldn't drink more than a mere 10 a week. Men should cap their drinking at three a day, while women should only have two. (Good luck getting drunk enough to forget your work week on THAT, ladies.) The guidelines, which are apparently the first ever set of national guidelines for drinking, also recommend that you not drink when:
• Driving a vehicle or using machinery and tools;
• Taking medicine or other drugs that interact with alcohol;
• Doing any kind of dangerous physical activity;
• Living with mental or physical health problems;
• Living with alcohol dependence;
• Pregnant or planning to be pregnant;
• Responsible for the safety of others;
• Making important decisions.
Were fine with all of those, except for that last one. We can't imagine making life choices without a glass or four of Jameson to get the ol' hamster wheel turning, but maybe that's just us.
