Canada's Environment Minister is ready to defend Alberta's oil supply.
At a global conference on climate change this week in South Africa, Canada’s Environment Minister Peter Kent says he will once again defend Canadian oil as both reliable and “ethical.” Taking a page from Ezra Levant's Ethical Oil: the Case for Canada’s Oil Sands, Kent will argue that Alberta offers a legitimate source of oil and is no different from other oil-producers that continue to deflect negative attention. Kent, however, is quick to separate himself from Levant, noting that he can and does often sleep without “the assistance of Ezra’s poetic prose.” At the 17th Conference of the Parties meeting, Kent said he will refuse any deal that allows some countries but not others to bypass greenhouse gas emission reductions.
