Adele, Kanye Sit Atop Grammy Pile

Millionaires expected to add more trinkets to mansions.
The 2012 Grammy nominations are out and they are almost exactly what you'd expect from the Grammys by now. There's a nice smattering of critical darlings (Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Black Keys, Robyn, Cut Copy) nominated alongside mega-stars (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kanye West) and broadly palatable newish artists (Adele, Mumford and Sons, Bruno Mars). The rap categories skew toward the platinum sellers (Lil Wayne, 'Ye, Jay-Z) while almost all the artists nominated for the best rock album are hitting their 40s or beyond (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jeff Beck, Wilco). There is one requisite nomination for a dead person (Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett's duet album), some token groups for the kids (Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, Deadmau5), one domestic abuser (Chris Brown), Radiohead, and, of course, a little bit of Coldplay. Basically, it is the platonic ideal of what all Grammy Award shows should be.
