British bomb could be one of the largest unexploded bombs ever discovered.
Beside having to feign interest in soccer, one of the drawbacks of living in Europe is having to cope with the occasional 4,000-pound reminder of the Second World War. The German city of Koblenz has just such a reminder in store for them this weekend, as half of the city's 100,000 residents will be temporarily evacuated on Sunday as crews carefully remove a massive bomb from the Rhine River. The bomb, believed to have been dropped by RAF bombers in the Second World War, was discovered earlier this year when the water level of the Rhine receded. Authorities have warned that should the bomb go off, it would likely create a 20-metre crater, destroy anything within 60 metres, and blow out windows for half a mile in every direction. Hence, the evacuation, which will empty hospitals, a local prison, and thousands of homes as defusers attempt to dismantle what officials are calling one of the largest unexploded bombs ever found. Umm, best of luck, guys.
