Putin has said foreign-funded election monitors are akin to "Judas."
The leader of Golos, an independent Russian election monitor, has been detained at the airport for 12 hours, just a day before Sunday’s parliamentary elections. A lawyer for Golos says that customs officials illegally copied the contents of her computer and confiscated the deputy leader’s laptop in an attempt to prevent the independent, western-funded watchdog from overseeing the election. Putin has been adamant that western voices will not "undermine" Russia’s election results. Putin announced his campaign to return to the Kremlin just last Sunday, and analysts believe his United Russia party will hold onto its majority in tomorrow’s vote.
