Therefore, Assad must be crazy.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gave an interview with ABC in which he denied that he was responsible for the deaths of some 4,000 Syrians in an anti-government uprising, claiming that only "crazy" political leaders would kill their subjects. We'll let that one sink in for a second.
...
Alright. Assad said that the vast majority of people who have been killed since March were actually government supporters, and that it was anti-government groups and army mutineers who have led the killing so far. This flies in the face of hundreds upon hundreds of reports of Syrian forces firing on and arresting thousands of unarmed Syrian civilians since the uprising began in March. The Syrian opposition forces have said that as much as a quarter of those killed were regime forces, but that still leaves a body count of about 3,000 that appear to be the responsibility of the Assad regime. The Syrian National Council, the umbrella group of opposition forces, said it would soon be presenting a plan to transfer power from Assad, who has been abandoned by allies in the Arab League and his major trade partner, Turkey, to a new government.
